[OPEN LOG] Welcome to Cape Beryl!
Who: Everyone!
When: Spring 2nd - all day.
Where: All across Cape Beryl.
What: You've splashed down into the Harvest Goddess's sacred pond, pulled yourself out - or perhaps been pulled out by an out-of-breath and soaking stranger, shaken off the worst of the shock of the cold and the unexpected trip underwater, and likely by now noticed that the little silver piece of jewelry that put you through this seems to have found its way around your neck.
Now you ought to get your bearings. Leave Goddess Grotto whenever you're ready, take the path out along a beach and up the cliffs to a village - see where you are, maybe if you can get directions. No matter what, you're going to realize that you're somewhere new - but maybe some of the Bower Village townspeople will be willing to help you get sorted out. If nothing else, maybe you'll be drawn into talking to anyone else you might catch sight of wandering the village, disoriented, soaked to the skin, and with a silver heart-shaped pendant around their neck. Depending on how you see it, you're not all alone - not any more than everyone else, anyway.
Headers for open interactions in example locations will be posted - but by all means, start threads wherever and with whoever you like!
Rating: Expected K-PG - subject to change as appropriate.
It's a cool, early spring day - the air and the breeze may not agree with anyone with wet clothes. But apart from that, the atmosphere is pleasant and peaceful; distant chirps of birds can be heard from the mouth of Goddess Grotto to Mt. Throne. The trees and grasses are pale green and flowers are budding in the meadows - not to mention the garden at Florist Lilia and de Sainte-Coquille Park.
And the town at the top of the cliffs is somewhat drowsily at peace. It's far from deserted - stabled behind a house on the town's east side is a healthy-looking mule, and a pair of chickens and a goat hang around in a pen behind an inn, the town's brightly-dressed mailwoman is out and about, as is the town watchman, who will likely be ready to approach anyone with an unfamiliar face before they can approach him, if he happens to catch them on his rounds. However, although anyone may freely knock on any of the doors in Bower Village and expect a polite "come in", no one is prepared for company, and whoever is inside might jump at finding themselves talking to a clearly displaced stranger!

But he nodded, then. She'd heard him right. "I asked if this Cape Beryl place was part'a Japan, and they ain't heard of the country at all. How the hell's that make sense? How'd I get from there to here?"
Kanji kicked a stone away from him. He was stuck here. That map of Cape Beryl didn't tell him anything good and he was out of his home country... none of this made any sense!

"Japan? But that's impossible! I was in California!" There was no way he could have drifted across the entire Pacific Ocean! And Cape Beryl and Bower Village were English names so it seemed likely she was still somewhere along the American coastline, even if she had no idea where.
Now that she was reminded of that impossibly bright gleam in the nighttime pond, she reached up to her neck and her hand closed against cool metal and stone. Looking down, Lily saw an obsidian heart in a setting of silver hanging a bit below collarbone level.
"Where the heck did this thing come from?" Even if it had been the glint in the water, she had been too busy nearly drowning to try on strange jewelry!
no subject
"Wait... you came from America? Uhh- how's that work?" Then he growled and rubbed a temple.
"Gettin' another headache. I ain't cut out for this stuff, damn it!"
no subject
"Yes, I was just in a park in San Francisco a while ago. Or last night." It seemed best not to mention why with her questionable witching hour activities.
They didn't both drift out to some island in the Pacific, did they? Or... One of her first thoughts on finding herself in this place returned. "You don't supposed we really drowned, do you? Moved on to the next dimension?"
no subject
He sighed. He had to keep a closer eye on Naoto, then. Rapunzel, too.
But his stomach felt a little cold on mention of some next dimension. Briefly, unasked for, he heard familiar voices screaming in his head and he began to feel queasy. Outwardly, he grew a little pale. He knew now what death felt like.
"We ain't dead. Somethin' just brought us here."
no subject
"Then, what? Kidnapped by the water spirits?" she asked with a small frown, forgetting to be as cautious as usual around strangers. Although if they were dead, hiding that she was a witch probably didn't matter much anymore.
Was it her imagination or had he gone a bit pale? "Are you okay?"
no subject
Memories were still a little fresh, but he didn't think he'd run into somebody who talked to freely about a heavy subject like death. But, that goes to show what he should expect from people, even in this weird place. Still, he wasn't in any mood to relive what had happened just a day ago.
"We got dragged through some kinda underground river, so... so maybe your water spirit thing ain't too far off." Wait, he was serious.
no subject
Huh. He actually was seriously considering the water spirit theory? She figured most folks these days would have dismissed such things as fairy tales.
"Were there supposed to be underground rivers where you were from? I hadn't heard of any in the park I was in."
no subject
From what he'd heard, anyway. He wasn't much in the way of geography. 'Street smarts', one could say.
"Ya think a river that connects to two different continents'd be in the news or somethin'," he said with a knit of his eyebrows.
"Can't even find a phone, there ain't a bus or taxi... not even a damn airport..." But even if the latter was around, he had no idea how the hell he'd pay for a ticket. Damn it.
no subject
Because if they weren't dead, this certainly seemed to indicate some sort of supernatural interference. He couldn't have been another practitioner also casting before this happened, could he?
She blinked in surprise at the news of no phones. Even with the way cell phones were ubiquitous these days? And no public transportation either? Were they someplace that remote?
"Really? There's none of that? How about a boat? We're near the water and I saw a lighthouse in the distance."
no subject
"...And the thing I reached for ended up on me somehow."
He shook his head. "Been there. They got no ships comin' in or out."

Reminded of the necklace, Lily tugged at hers again. Unlike the protective medallions she made, the chain on this was obviously too short to go over her head without some kind of clasp. Yet, feeling along the links, she couldn't find any such fastener.
"Where the heck is the clasp on this thing?"
And no boats either. "Maybe, we could hike to the next town if necessary. This place isn't an island, right?"
no subject
But he lifted his head. She was right; this wasn't an island at all! "Hey... hey, you're right! I should try takin' a walk today and see if I don't come up with somethin' outside of all those maps they got at the mayor's office."
no subject
She nodded. "Sounds like a good idea. And I reckon I should get out of these wet clothes." Realizing she hadn't introduced herself yet... "Oh, and my name's Lily."
no subject
He nodded toward the inn. "They can hook you up, run what you got on through the wash. I mean, if they'd do it for me, then they'd do it for you too."
Kanji looked away again, sweeping back his hair and hoping it'd stay. Fat chance of that until he got his hands on some hair gel. "What ya got on looks delicate. Bit old. If whoever washes that outfit manhandles it a little... I-I can fix it."
no subject
The towel had helped but it felt oddly chilly for May, even taking the wet clothes into account, and she couldn't help shivering a bit.
"Fix it?" Lily glanced down at her white dress. "It's just an old thing I got from an estate auction." It had been part of a lot along with a trio of blouses but she had deemed it a bit worn to be put on sale in the shop. So, she had kept it for some of her spellcasting work instead.

The scarred boy sighed, stretched his arms over his head, and turned sidelong. "Anyways, I gotta meet up with a friend, figure out what the hell I'm gonna do now that I'm stuck here."
He shrugged again, stiffly, turning away before the pink to the face was more obvious. "Promise is a promise, y'know?"
A quick glance her way. "You, uh... g-good luck, yeah?"
no subject
A friend? Had he fallen into the pond with someone else? "Okay, I won't keep you then. And thanks."
She gave him a nod in farewell and then turned towards the inn, in search of dry clothes and hopefully some answers about this place.
