[Open Log] Research at the library...
Who: Naoto Shirogane, Open
Naoto was not one to just sit around and wait for something to happen to her. When presented with an unusual case, after all, the best thing to do was to go and gather as much information as possible and start to build a theory from there. That's what she had done in Inaba and here was no different.
Thus, she found herself the next day at the Library, asking for Mary's assistance in trying to discover anything and everything about this new place, any sort of leads she could find on how they could possibly get home. It was rather disconcerting that Mary had no idea where 'Japan' was, let alone Inaba, but that did not stop Naoto from delving into the book collection.
You'd find the Detective Prince busy somewhere in the corner of the Library, nose buried in 'The Cape at the Throne of the King', hoping to find something useful...
When: Spring 3rd.
Where: Bower Village Library
What: Researching where they've ended up, hoping to find answer for how to get back home...
Rating: Projected PG to PG-13 for possible mild language.

She nodded, pushing a few of the other books she had taken towards the girl, in case they interested her.
"I'm Naoto Shirogane... and you are?"
no subject
"Oh, excuse my manners. My name is Jane Crocker, it's very nice to meet you, Naoto! Your name sounds just like a detective's, if you don't mind my saying, hoo hoo! That's really neat."
no subject
The accent didn't come off as British, after all. Naoto smiled, taking Jane's extended hand and shaking it firmly. Her comment made Naoto's brow raise.
"You're rather astute then. I'm a member of the Shirogane family in Japan-- it's a long line of detectives going back several generations. I myself was working as a detective before arriving here."
She'd refrain on telling her the nickname she'd received for now...

Her comment being acknowledged as truth makes Jane's eyebrows lift, before she can't help looking downright estatic, smiling brightly.
"Oh goodness, that's amazing! I've always been a fan of detectives and their hard work, and I'd like to say I'm a bit of a gumshoe myself! Clues to find, trails to piece together, suspects to be mindful of, it's all part of the ever important job of protecting people and bringing the awful ones to justice!"
Naoto has to deal with a fangirl now, oh no.
no subject
Well then. She wasn't quite expecting to meet a 'fangirl' here. Though fortunately this one seemed a bit more interested in her work then dating her, which was a nice change of pace. Was she blushing a little?
"I see... are you interested in becoming one professionally?"
The girl was eager, at the very least.

Rubbing her face and laughing off the sudden embarrassment of being so excited, Jane gave a more sheepish smile.
"I just never had the opportunity to meet a real detective."
Naoto and Jane, super sleuths!
Lord knows, Naoto knew all about that. She offered the girl a sincere smile.
"Well then. If you are that interested, I could do my best to impart some tricks I know to you, if you'd like."
More female detectives were always welcome, after all.
too bad jane doesnt have her fake mustaches with her heee
"That would be wonderful, thank you! I will do my best, hoo hoo!!"
Surely they could make some! :D
I-it was a little strange to be thanked in such a way... well, no. She had been before, as the Detective Prince, but this was a little different. This girl didn't know all the baggage that name with the name Shirogane, or seem to care she was a girl, or anything like that. She sincerely seemed appreciative, and it was... different. Maybe something Naoto could get used to though, all in all.
"S-so, do you have any previous experience with detective work, or just a general interest?"
hats and staches, aw yiss
Looking a little sheepish, Jane took a moment to pull some papers out of her notebook so they can both take notes.
Also bubble pipes.
Hrm... how should she start?
"Let's see how you'll be able to solve a logic puzzle, then."
Leaning back, Naoto thought carefully, before nodding, deciding on which one to do.
"At a musical recital five students --" She was about to list off some Japanese names, but decided to try English instead for Jane's sake--"John, Kate, Larry, Mary and Nick, performed five musical pieces. Two by Bach, two by Mozart and one by Vivaldi. There were three violinists and two pianists. Each student performed only one piece, and played only one instrument. What is the order of the students, their respective instruments and the composer, with the following conditions--"
Carefully, Naoto lifted a finger and counted off each of the conditions.
"The composers were not played consecutively. Vivaldi was played last and Mozart was played first. There was one piano piece that was played between two violin pieces, and two violin pieces between the first and last piano piece. There were no piano pieces by Mozart. Kate played third. John played a piece by Mozart, and was immediately followed by Nick, who played the piano. Mary did not play a piece by Vivaldi."
She then looked up at Jane, tilting her head to the side.
"Being able to keep track of facts, as well as make logical deductions is vital to being a detective. Finding connections between facts you uncover as well as noticing the lack of connecting facts in an assumption is a skill you must develop."
omg they need them right now hahahahah
Paper and pencil in hand, she jots out short notes as Naoto talks, just so she has something to look at to gather her thoughts better. With it all written out in some mildly scrappy notes, Jane thinks quietly for a long few minutes.
"I think I've got it. John played Mozart on the violin, Nick played Bach on the piano, Kate played Mozart on the violin, Mary played Bach on the violin, and Larry was the only one to play a Vivaldi on the piano."
no subject
How fascinating... though Naoto wondered if she should address the woman with a more respectful tone. But enough of that, Naoto pushed it aside when Jane came to her conclusion, offering the girl a smile.
"Well done. That is indeed correct. I'll need to think of another puzzle to give you."
no subject
"Baked goods. I'm the heir to the Crocker corporation, though the current woman in charge is certainly no Crocker herself." In an effort to redirect the awkward about only being heir to a food company, Jane just smiles about getting the puzzle correct.
"Brain teasers really are the best, aren't they?"
no subject
You know, she always thought the extremely gun-toting-loud-mouth American stereotype was a bit over done and not very accurate to the majority. But were they really willing to kill a young woman over baked goods?
"I... see. Well, I am glad here you will be safe from such attempts on your life. If there's anything I can do to assist you, mind, please let me know."
Deciding to pull away from that topic as well--for now-- Naoto smiled, giving the girl a nod.
"Indeed. I enjoyed reading books like this when I wasn't studying forensic theory-- long with reading detective novels myself. I admit, I have a great love of Sherlock Holmes..."
Big surprise there.
no subject
She did nod with a smile about being assisted, but the moment Sherlock was mentioned, Jane couldn't help herself; she was having such a fangirl moment over the fictional detective genius.
no subject
There was always something lost in translation, after all.
"Logic puzzles are my favorite; though as a youngster if I couldn't figure it out I used to agonize over it until I found the answer. But I refused to let my Grandpa tell me it either... well. Until it got over a weeks time and he became concerned, I suppose."
